Phuket Fishing Seasons and Weather information


For fishing in Phuket, it is nice that we have fishing all year round however read on for some information that will help plan your fishing trip to Phuket.
Phuket, Thailand has a tropical climate consisting of two distinct seasons. Most days, no matter what time of year, are warm and pleasant conditions for fishing and boating, with very few days of the year that is better to go shopping!

Phuket Weather November to April is our "Dry Season" or "Summer Season" or  "High Season" with most days clear blue skies, light sea breezes, picture-perfect days and nights with quite warm temperatures. 
​Some days have stronger winds however we rarely need to cancel as the captains know where the calmer waters are behind the islands for fishing.
Phuket Weather May to October is our "Monsoon Season" or "Wet Season" or "Green Season"
This period, the weather and conditions for fishing are definitely much better than the names "monsoon" and "wet" may suggest. We do have occasional  3-5 day periods of strong winds and intermittent rain however we rarely lose more than 10-15 days per year when it become too uncomfortable or unsafe for boating. 
​We do have mainly overcast skies with light to moderate winds. This is typified in the header photo above. Compare it to the below photo of a typical Dry Season weather day.
The generally slight to heavily overcast skies actually make it more comfortable and cooler outside and the fish don't care!
We watch the weather forecast very closely leading up to a charter day, mainly using www.windguru.cz/phuket as reference. Also our captains have lifetimes of local knowledge with living and fishing daily. As hardened lovers of the sea and modern technical help of Windguru.cz, we have a sound base to make decisions for the next days'operation plan.

The best seasons for fishing in Phuket can vary from year to year although we do expect to catch fish every day we leave the Chalong Pier.
The best months start in October through to February, then taper off a little as the water gets warmer. Late March and April can be slow but this year we had some fantastic days with sail fish on the bite and bottom fishing quite good. 
This generally slower time can actually be a peak in catching GT,Giant Trevally out from Racha Noi Island,  however you will need the fast speed boat Phuket ProMax and specialist jigging gear for this sports fishing technique.
​Once the skies become cloudy in early May and sea breezes incease, the surface water cools for the fish to come closer to feed near the surface again for the following months. Business as usual for Phuket Fishing Charters!
